State government has decided to embark upon an ambitious plan to plant five crore saplings in its rural areas by August end.

Also, to execute this mega project, the state has decided to get its citizens involved.
“The idea is to plant one sapling per person to make the state greener and bring awareness among people about environment and its conservation,” said an official from Rural Development Department.
The state has earmarked Rs 200 crore for the scheme in the budget. Experts and environmentalists will advise on which saplings to planted considering geographical and climactic conditions of that particular area, the official said.
The programme will be expedited during July and August and locals are expected to take care of the saplings once planted, he said.
The saplings will be planted on arid lands, near roads, in school and college premises, on a farm boundary and also on private lands.
