‘Students’ assessment should be for progress’

“The best research shows that competitive assessment measures social advantage, and not learning,” she said.

Rampal was speaking at a national summit on quality education organised by the state’s education departments and the Confederation of Indian Industry’s Institute of Quality at Mithibai College on Friday.

Speakers from across the country presented different models of inclusive education on the first day of the conference including economical international schooling and tribal integration in higher education.

Pro vice-chancellor of the Indira Gandhi National Open University Lata Pillai and ‘Super Thirty’ founder Anand Kumar will be speaking at the conference on Saturday.

Other speakers on Friday included HA Ranganath, director of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, KN Shenoy, chairman of the CII Institute of Quality and Anil Kakodkar, former chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission of India.
