‘Students more open to unconventional career options’

The reason: Students and parents had thronged the auditorium to attend Hindustan Times Campus Calling career counselling sessions.

The three-hour session not only enlightened students about various career options in the field of arts, science and commerce, but also drew their attention to offbeat careers such as bartending, hypnotherapy and cosmetology and even nail art.

“I always loved nail art but never realised that a career could me made of it,” said Neha Rao, 15, a class 10 student.

Jenny Chettiar, the career counsellor, who conducted the session said, “Students are now more open to exploring various unconventional career options. This is an encouraging trend”

A part of the session was dedicated to a one-on-one with participants.

“I was clueless about the vocation I wanted to choose, but now after all the guidance that I have received, it will be easier to make a choice,” said Divya Sharma, 17, a class 12 science student.

The sessions also provided information on various entrance tests, courses, eligibility criteria and job prospects.

“After I failed to crack the IIT-JEE this year, I was extremely disheartened, but after today’s session my horizons have been broadened,” said Smriti Jha, 17, a class 12 student.

“I am happy with the session that took place today. As a parent, I am very happy that my child has so many options to choose from. I wish there was such an initiative when I was a student,” said Prasanna Vasu, a father who accompanied his daughter for the session.
