‘Students removed from school for bad performance’

Parents of 18 Class 11 students at Delhi Public School in Nerul have alleged that the school asked their children to leave following poor results in their annual final exams last month. The school has issued transfer certificates to the 18 students but has not given them a reason for doing so. The school, however, has rubbished the claims.

“No reason was given to us for issuing the transfer certificate and the principal refuses to meet us to discuss the issue,” said a parent of a Class 11 student. “The children did not perform well in these exams so the school is worried that their results at the Class 12 board exam will be affected.”

They have looked for admission in neighbouring CBSE schools, but to no avail. They then approached the non-profit group Forum For Fairness in Education. Said another parent: “We have no option but to go to the court.”

The school principal, PC Chhabra denied the incident. “This is not true, nobody has been asked to leave the school, we do not force anyone to do so,” said Chhabra. “You can visit my office and check the records.”
