The railway police have started a special drive to catch and punish commuters who put their lives at risk by performing stunts on moving trains.

The drive was launched on Wednesday after a video, which showed three youths from Reay Road performing dangerous stunts on a speeding train went viral on the Internet.

The stunts saw one youth jumping out of the speeding train, latching on to the pole in the train while travelling on the footboard and running on a bridge.

On the first day of the drive, the railway police caught three youngsters at Sandhurst station while they were trying to perform stunts. In another case, a 13-year-old boy almost leaped out of a moving train between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Masjid Bunder stations on Wednesday.

The minor has sustained concussions to his head and will require treatment for at least a month.

“We will continue the drive till people stop performing these stunts in moving locals and understand the repercussions of their actions,” said GS Bhandare, deputy commissioner of police (railway).
