Leader of opposition in the state assembly Eknath Khadse said his party strongly objected to the government’s move of submitting the commission report on the last day of the budget session that ended on April 18. “Why was the government scared of tabling the report in the state assembly? It should have been presented to the assembly along with the Action to be Taken Report (ATR),” he said.

The chief minister said he was keen on making the report public and possibly putting it on the Internet. Khadse said he strongly objected to the move without it being tabled in the assembly first. “It is a breach of privilege of the state assembly. The commission was constituted after a stormy debate in the winter session of the legislature in 2010. It was admitted by the government that the report and the ATR would be tabled first in the assembly,” he said.

BJP state president Devendra Fadnavis said, “The report should be put in the public domain, but why did the government shy away from tabling it in the assembly. Ethically speaking, Chavan should have tabled it in the assembly in the budget session. The government is undermining the legislative assembly by managing the submission of the final reports a couple of hours before the session ended.”
