The Shivaji Nagar police arrested Anees Mohammad Ismail Khan (33), the driver of a BEST bus for rash and negligent driving.

Kamruddin Ansari, a tailor from the Govandi had gone to meet his sister who delivered a baby at the Bombay City Hospital in Govandi when his mother asked him to get milk from a nearby shop.

Around 9.30 pm, Ansari was crossing the road when Khan, who was going towards Chembur from the Shivaji Nagar depot, brushed past Ansari at high speed. Ansari got caught between Khan’s bus and another BEST bus, headed back to the Shivaji Nagar depot from Kurla on the other side of the road.

He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Rajawadi Hospital where he was declared dead.

Khan, who fled the spot immediately after the accident later presented himself before the police where he was booked for rash and negligent driving in addition to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

The elder brother of the deceased said, “A joyous moment for the family has turned into tragedy with the demise of my brother. My sister had delivered a baby boy a few days ago and we were all in a mood to celebrate.”
