Taking centre stage

IIT Bombay to host the eighth edition of its theatre fest; the three-day event will feature student plays as well as three commercially successful acts.

Since its establishment in 1958, IIT Bombay has, over the decades, earned the reputation of being not just a Mecca of academic excellence but also a buzzing hub of cultural activities.

Starting tomorrow, September 23 onwards, the institution’s dramatics society will host its annual theatre fest, Fourth Wall. The three-day event will feature student plays as well as three popular commercial acts that have been a success at venues like the Prithvi Theatre and the NCPA.

On its first day, the festival will kick off with acts titled Safar, Uljhan and Just Do It. They will be followed by Aaj Rang Hai, a musical directed by Purva Naresh. “Performing before the students from a technical background is always intriguing. It’s good to see that this section of the youth is also inclined towards theatre. I hope to interact with them after my performance,” says Naresh.

The second day will witness another popular act, Some Times. “Though we have been active for over 13 years, performing at IIT Bombay is always special. The response that one gets from the audiences there is unparalleled,” says Akarsh Khurrana, team member, Some Times. The festival will conclude with the critically acclaimed act, By George, which is directed by veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah.
