The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) results were announced on May 30, and the detailed college-wise data and the original mark sheets were distributed on Thursday.

The pass percentage for the Mumbai division was 0.4%, a shade higher than last year. Contrary to the science stream, top scores of students from arts and commerce streams have gone up compared to last year. Owing to the drop in science scores, the number of distinctions have reduced to 20,641 from last year’s 22,961.

The science topper at Ruia College scored 95.5%, lower than last year’s 96.5%. “Mostly high-scorers in science stream opt for professional courses, leaving quite a few seats vacant,” said Devyani Ganpule, vice-principal of the college.

“With the CET results being announced early, science stream students won’t block degree college seats,” said Tushar Desai, principal, DG Ruparel College, Matunga.

Securing a seat for arts and commerce courses is likely to get tougher. The commerce topper at ML Dahanukar College in Vile Parle has scored 92%, compared to 91.16% last year. At RA Podar College in Matunga, the commerce top score went up to 93.5%, from 93.17% in 2012. The top score at KPB Hinduja College in Charni Road reached 87.335%, almost 2% higher than last year.

The arts top score at Ruia College was 89%. “It will ensure that cut-offs for arts go up,” said Kiran Mangaonkar, college principal, Mithibai Colllege.
