Dinkar Pingale, police inspector from Murbad police station, said, “Six to seven unidentified robbers entered the village. With the help of a spray and choppers, they threatened the villagers and robbed five houses.”

However, when they entered Bangars house, 14-year-old Sumit, who was awake, saw one of them and alerted his mother Mandatai (40), Pingale added.

Mandatai and her mother-in-law, Jijabai (60), started calling out for help. But the robbers attacked them with choppers, resulting in Sumit dying on the spot. Villagers rushed the duo to Sion Hospital, but Jijabai was declared dead and Mandatai is said to be critical.
