Six years after the seizure of arms and ammunition from Aurangabad, the anti-terrorism squad (ATS) has identified three more persons in the case, with the help of key Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative and 26/11 handler Sayed Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal.
The special public prosecutor Raja Thakare on Monday, while seeking further police custody of Jundal, contended that they had identified three more suspects in the 2006 Aurangabad arms haul case. “Of these three suspects, one is a tempo driver and they need to be traced and arrested,” Thakare said. He also said they needed further custody of Jundal to arrest these three suspects.
The special MCOCA judge, SM Modak after hearing the prosecution extended Jundal’s custody with the ATS till September 10.
Meanwhile, the court also asked Jundal whether he has a defence counsel or whether he needed an advocate from the legal aid panel. Replying to the court’s question Jundal again pleaded that he wanted to talk to his parents in this regard.
The court considering the request directed ATS officers to speak to his parents if they were willing to meet him. The court further said if they are willing to meet Jundal, they could come to Mumbai at their own expense. The court told Jundal he can meet his parents only for 10 minutes in the presence of ATS officers. However, the court restrained Jundal from discussing anything else about the arms haul case and the 26/11 case, in which he was arrested earlier, and interrogation, with his parents. If he does so he will not be permitted to talk to his parents at all, the judge said.
