Three suicide cases reported in city in two days

In the past two days, three cases of suicide have been reported in the city. In the first case, Shirin D'souza, 35, assistant manager with the Kurla branch of the National Stock Exchange, committed suicide on Thursday allegedly due to health ailments.

In the first case, Shirin D'souza, 35, assistant manager with the Kurla branch of the National Stock Exchange, committed suicide on Thursday allegedly due to health ailments. The Kurla police said that D'souza was a resident of Sahar in Andheri (East).

"Around 6pm, D'souza jumped off the lobby of his sixth floor office at Kohinoor towers. The security guard alerted the police. D'souza was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead," said an official from the Kurla police on condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

According to the police, D'souza had been suffering from a stomach infection and 40 different medicines were found in his bag. The police suspect that his health ailment may have driven him to take the extreme step.

In another incident, Andheri resident Rashmi Hasora, 20, was found hanging from her ceiling on Wednesday afternoon. Hasora was to get married in a few months. No suicide note was found from the spot.

"Since no suicide note has been found, we cannot ascertain the reason behind her suicide," said Dipak Bagwe, police inspector, MIDC police station.

Hasora's parents told the police that she got engaged in October and was to get married in December. Her body has been sent for post-mortem to Cooper hospital.

In the third incident, Vijay Nimadiya, 18, committed suicide at his uncle's Dahisar (East) residence on Thursday afternoon. While Nimadiya's father polished shoes at the railway station for a living, the 18-year-old lived with his uncle.

In his statement to the police, Nimadiya's father said that the family has been facing some financial problems owing to which his son may have taken the extreme step.

"We have registered a case of accidental death," said Ansar Pirjade, senior inspector, Dahisar police station.
