“Initially, I was skeptical about how my son would manage challenging tasks such as rock climbing, but he loved it all and has learnt how to rough it out in the wild,” said Sumita Deb, a Kharghar resident who will send Siddharth to the Life Away From Life adventure camp for the second year in a row this April.

As the heat turns up and the holiday season begins, children and young adults have a host of summer activities to choose from that go beyond regular sports into the realm of adventure. From kayaking and water skiing within the city to paragliding, river rafting and snorkelling in districts nearby, anything you may want to sign up for is accessible.

According to Pradeep Pathade, a water sports coach at the city-based company Rae Sports, such activities that test your physical abilities are important to experience not just for the self-confidence, independence and fearlessness they build in you.

“The emotional and physical benefits of sports such as technical rock climbing and river rafting are impressive, as they result in improved problem-solving abilities, better communication skills and positive thinking,” said Dr Mustafa Bapai, a family physician based in south Mumbai.
