The traffic police have decided to meet school principals and parents to ensure that steps are being taken to ensure the safety of children travelling in school buses, following the recent series of mishaps.

Officials plan to meet school principals to discuss educating children about bus safety and the need to constantly reinforce what has been taught so that kids follow instructions.
“We will be requesting the school authorities to educate children on basic bus safety measures. We will also hold a parents-teachers meeting,” said Brijesh Singh, additional commissioner of police (traffic).
“The basic safety measures children should be taught include not putting their hand or body out of the bus, not crawling under a stationary bus to retrieve something and not boarding or alighting from a moving bus. These basic instructions can help in preventing mishaps.”
The department has also instructed all traffic chowkies located near schools to recommend steps on how children can be protected from bus accidents near the school, said Singh, who hopes the suggestions, based on observation and experience, will help curb school bus mishaps.
“The area around a school is quite crowded when the school starts and closes, so it is necessary for the school authorities to make sure that appropriate measures are taken to avoid accidents. The bus drivers should also be trained and instructed to make sure they drive properly,” he said.
