Two accidents near Kandivli, one dead

A 35-year-old man was killed while two others, including an airhostess, suffered injuries in two separate accidents on the Western Express Highway near Kandivli on Tuesday.

A 35-year-old man was killed while two others, including an airhostess, suffered injuries in two separate accidents on the Western Express Highway near Kandivli on Tuesday.

Both the accidents occurred at Thakur signal in Kandivli (East) around 4 am. In the first accident, a dumper heading towards Kandivli, lost control and collided into the divider. The driver’s assistant, Loknath Chakranike, died after he was taken to Bhagwati Hospital.

The police arrested Dinesh Yadav (25), the driver, on charges of causing death due to rash and negligent driving. “Yadav was speeding and lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the divider,” said senior police inspector Anant Kenjale.

Later, another accident took place at the same spot but in opposite direction. “Nisha Singh, an airhostess, was going towards the airport from Kandivli,” the officer said. The dumper accident diverted her driver’s attention and the vehicle collided into a lorry.

Singh and her driver have suffered minor injuries.
