The VP Road police, on Friday, arrested two men under charges of extortion after they allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh from a godown owner on Wednesday.

The police said the duo, identified as Santosh Mane and Pranav Tembekar, met Shailesh Shah, the owner, on Wednesday and told him his godown was illegal.
They later said they had contacts and would get the establishment shut if he did not pay up. They allegedly also threatened to kill him if he refused to pay, said the police.
Shah's brother approached the police and lodged a complaint on Friday, after which the duo was arrested. The police are on the lookout for one of the accomplices.
The police said Mane was recently expelled from a political party for his involvement in extortion cases while Tembekar is still attached to a regional party. The duo has been remanded in police custody till April 22.
