Two bikers killed after being hit by luxury bus in Mumbai

Two youths riding a motorcycle without wearing helmets were killed on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway in Kasa village, Thane, in the early hours of Sunday after their vehicle was hit by a speeding luxury bus.

According to a police official, the accident took place at around 12.15 am on Sunday at the Charoti Naka on National Highway-8 (Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway).

"The RK Bishnoi travels bus, carrying around 30 passengers, was moving towards Ahmedabad from Mumbai and after knocking down the bike, it ran over the duo killing them," said Bharat Chowdhary, senior inspector, Kasa police.

The police also added that the driver of the luxury bus immediately fled the spot but surrendered before the Kasa police about 18 hours after the accident.

The two deceased have been identified as twenty-year-old Amol Vilas Bhandgar, a resident of Mahalaxmi and Balaji Kaunder, 22, a resident of Valvipada in Kasa. They were rushed to a nearby hospital after passersby informed the police control room of the accident, however, they were declared dead on admission. Both the victims were auto rickshaw drivers by profession.
