Two dead, four injured in accident on Mumbai-Pune Expressway

Four others suffered injuries in the accident, the police said. According to the police, a tyre of the first truck, which was on its way towards Mumbai from Pune, got punctured near Panvel around 1.30am.

The driver and his two helpers parked the truck on lane no 1 adjacent to the divider, and started repairing it. However, the second truck hit it from the rear end.

“The drivers of both the trucks suffered severe injuries and died on the spot. One of them has been identified as Amol Dhamale, while the other person is yet to be identified,” said an officer from New Panvel police station.

Two cleaners from the stationary vehicle and two men from the moving truck suffered injuries and have been admitted to a hospital in Khandeshwar. Three of them are said to be in a critical condition, the police said.
