Following the recent attack on henchman of gangster Abu Salem at the Arthur Road Jail, the Home Department has issued suspension orders of two jail guards for negligence of duty.

On September 25, Mohammed Mehndi Hassan, accused in the murder of builder Pradeep Jain, was going to JJ Hospital for treatment for when for people attacked and assaulted with sharp weapons.
Medha Ghadgil, principal secretary (imprisonment), Home Department, confirmed the suspension of the two guards for negligence of duty and said the order was issued last week.
The guards are Devanand Sarvade and Namdev Charaskar.
Pradeep Pandey and Abhay Shelar, who belong to the Pandav Putra gang, had attacked Hasan.
The duo was returning after meeting with their lawyer and on seeing Hasan they attacked him.
The crime branch had arrested Pandey and Shelar a few months ago in connection with an extortion case.
A few days after the attack, Hasan and three others were shifted to Taloja Jail.
Arthur Road Jail Superintendent Rajendra Dhamne had said that while Hasan was being shifted as a precautionary measure, the others were being shifted as part of a routine transfer.
