Two killed in Wadala over old rivalry

Police said the victims were attacked with sickles. One of the accused, Laxmanan Sudalimurthi, 35, who was also injured in the attack, is recuperating at Sion hospital. Police said past rivalry was the reason behind the attack.

Nisar Tamboli, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), who is also the Mumbai police spokesperson, said Sudalimurthi had been arrested and they were looking out for the others.

The victims, Vishal Mahadik, 30, and Santosh Kamble, 40, and few others, were sitting outside a Mhada chawl in the transit camp area of Wadala TT. Around 6.30pm, six persons attacked the duo, said an officer from Wadala TT police requesting anonymity.

Sadalimurthi was overpowered by locals and handed over to the police, while the others fled.

The police said the accused were mostly local “idliwallas” (hawkers). “There were several eye witnesses. It won’t be difficult to identity of the accused,” said a police officer.
