Two coal miners were killed and another seriously injured on Saturday in a mine mishap at the Western Coalfields Limited’s (WCL) mine in Pathakheda area of Chhattarpur district, officials said.

Angry over the incident, the workers union protested against the WCL management for not having adequate security measures at the mishap site, they said.
The mishap occurred at the W-4 line of the mine number two which was recently opened after directives were received in this regard from the WCL's Nagpur office.
While digging coal, a heavy stone fell on the miners following which one of the miners, identified as Rajendra Mandal, was killed on the spot while two others identified as Nandlal and Ramswaroop were injured seriously, they said. They were admitted in the WCL's Pathakheda Hospital where Ramswaroop succumbed to his injuries. Nandlal was referred to Nagpur for treatment, after his condition became critical, they said.
