On December 7, 1992, Ghoraknath Kumbar and Sanjay Dal were arrested from Kurla. The duo was released on bail.

“One witness said he saw the mob from his home's window but later shut the window,” said R.G. Gadgil, defence advocate.

Gadgil said the witness couldn't identify Kumbar or Dal. "We argued that they happened to be at that place by co-incidence and were not part of the mob," said Gadgil.

Mohammed Ahmed, another witness, said no riot had occurred on that day. "We were able to prove that this was a fabricated witness," said Gadgil.
