Police said that on October 23, 2010, the accused, Arvind Dola met diamond trader Dilip Doshi at his Opera House office and told him he had a client who wanted to buy diamonds. Dola left with two of Doshi’s employees to meet the client. However, the deal fell through and the three went in search of another buyer.

On the way, Dola, who had the diamonds with him, said he was going to the toilet, while Doshi’s employees waited for him outside. After Dola didn’t return for nearly half an hour, they became suspicious. They found that Dola had escaped from the toilet window. Doshi moved court, which directed the DB Marg police to register a case. A theft case was filed and the probe revealed that Dola was a Surat resident.
