Less than two weeks before the final semester exams, the examination department of the University of Mumbai had postponed some exams, including the sixth semester of the bachelor of arts (75:25 pattern), by 15 days. The university uploaded the new schedule on its website on Friday evening.
Around 15,000 students will take the sixth semester BA exams, which were to start from April 8. According to the new circular, the exams will now start on April 22.
The university has also postponed the TYBCom (old syllabus), MA & MSc (repeaters) exams. An exam department official said the demand to postpone the tests was made during the varsity senate meeting on March 24 and 25. “As the results for TYBA (fifth semester) were delayed [were declared on March 10], we had to take this decision. We will upload a detailed timetable soon,” said Dinesh Bhonde, controller of examinations of the university.
“We have also postponed a few tests for MSc (repeaters), considering they need more time to prepare between their practical and theory exams,” he said.
TYBA students have welcomed the decision. “The decision to postpone the exam was necessary as the results for previous exams were declared much later than expected. Otherwise, we would have not had enough time to prepare and complete the process of re-evaluation for previous exam results. But we will have to reschedule our vacation plans because of it,” said a TYBA student from Ruia College, Matunga.
