Undertrial commits suicide in Taloja jail

The Nerul police had arrested Patil on February 22 for attempting to murder his brother-in-law Amit Aldar. Kiran Patil, senior police inspector, Kharghar police station, said, “Patil was found hanging in the lock-up at 2am.”

Patil was apparently under stress owing to the marital discord between him and his wife Shashikala. She had separated with him and was staying with her brother Amit. When Patil went to Amit’s house to bring his wife back, he had an argument with Amit. In a fit of rage, Patil allegedly stabbed Amit with a knife.

Patil’s uncle, Arjun Deo, said, “How could they not prevent suicide in the lock-up? His wife and her family are responsible for this incident.”
