Taking a serious note of poor spending by departments, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, on Thursday, asked all secretaries to use the planned budget within given timeframe and focus on good quality management.

Chavan was reviewing the annual plan for the 2011-12 year, which is yet to be approved by the planning commission.
“He (Chavan) asked us to focus on resource generation and achieve our targets. He also emphasised that expenditure of planned budget should be carried out judiciously and on time," said a senior bureaucrat.
HT had reported that till mid February, departments had spent only 36% of the approved outlay for development.
With Chavan’s approval, the state will now seek approval from the Planning Commission next week. The annual plan for this year is likely to be 15% higher than 2010-11. “In the coming financial year, we will review the expenditure every three months,’’ said Rajendra Mulak, minister of state for finance.
