A proposal to introduce such a programme was approved by the faculty of commerce on Friday and will be discussed at the university’s academic council meeting on Wednesday.

The All India Council for Technical Education, which governs management education, had announced it would be introducing an integrated programme earlier this year. IIM-Indore will enroll its first batch of students in the new integrated management programme in October.

“Such a course will be helpful for students who have a clear aim about what they want to do, so that their degree can be more focussed,” said TP Madhu Nair, dean of the commerce faculty at Mumbai University.

The programme, if accepted by the university, will be offered through affiliated post-graduate management institutes.

“We will definitely consider it,” said MA Khan, director of Sydenham Institute of Management Studies, Churchgate. “The current Masters of Management Studies (MMS) programme has a lot of repetition of the Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) programme, so the new course will avoid duplication. Students will also have the option to exit after the third year with a degree.”
