Assuring the Bombay high court of rectifying the error in its prospectus, the state government, on Tuesday, declared that visually-challenged students are eligible for the Common Entrance Examination (CET) for Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPTh) course for the academic year 2011-12.

Despite the court order last year, the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) had issued a prospectus for the academic year 2011-12 stating that visually-challenged students are ineligible for the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPTh) course.
Refused admission for the four-year Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPTh) course by DMER, visually-challenged Kritika Purohit, 17, had moved the high court. While granting provisional admission to Purohit, the court had, on August 2, 2010, also directed the chief commissioner of disability, central government, to frame guidelines for admission to differently-abled persons in professional courses in three months.
Advocate for Purohit, Kanchan Pamnani, told the court that even after seven months, the guidelines have not been formed.
The HC had also directed the Maharashtra University of Health Science to frame guidelines for admission to differently-abled students in professional medical courses in three months.
