There are precious few gaming venues in the city, so we were naturally excited about Smaash, which promised a high-end gaming experience. It’s just opened (on Tuesday), but we got a sneak-peek a few days ago.

The ground-plus-one structure houses cricket and Formula One simulators, an array of arcade games, a bowling alley, a first-person shooter den and even Poolball (a giant pool-table version of football). There’s also a restaurant-cum-bar.About the theme of Smaaash, founder Shripal Morakhia says, “It’s about converting a country of spectators into a nation of players — the same thrills while watching a game are yours as you play against your icons. It can’t get more entertaining.”

The highlight is the cricket simulators, which brand ambassador Sachin Tendulkar has tested himself. “It’s built on world-class technology and it’s as close as it gets to the real thing,” says Sachin, who has also been designated the Key conscience keeper of Smaaash. As per the quirky title, Sachin’s role has been to ensure that the simulator stays true to the game.

Formula One simulator: Strap in and you’re staring at a screen that places you in a racing scenario with a few other cars. Accelerate your way across the circuit during a brief ride. Be warned, it might make you giddy. Prices start at Rs 250 for three minutes.

Arcade games: There’s plenty to choose from — foosball, pit stop challenge Pacman, air hockey and even a giant touch-screen Fruit Ninja. Prices start at Rs 50 per game.

Robokeeper: If you can score three goals in a row against this mechanical goalkeeper, Smaaash will give you a Mercedes Benz with a chauffeur for the weekend. And if you score four in a row, you win a Harley Davidson bike. Naturally, it can’t be easy. Prices start at Rs 250 for five shots.

Smaaash is at Kamala City Studio, Oasis Complex, Kamala Mills Compound, Lower Parel. Call 49143143 for more details.
