Warm nights as temperatures touch 30 degrees

Weathermen stated that there is only a five degree Celsius gap between Mumbai’s day and night temperatures.

Nights here have seen temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius for the past four days.

“Coastal winds have not changed their patterns from land to sea. High humidity during the early hours also leads to the spike,” said KS Hosalikar, deputy director general, western region, India Meteorological Department.

He added that the partly cloudy sky traps heat at night. “We expect this phenomenon to continue till the monsoons hit the Konkan coast,” he said.

On Monday, Colaba’s night temperature was 29.4 degrees Celsius and 29.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, south Mumbai’s night temperature was 29.6 degrees Celsius, and 29.8 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

From Monday to Thursday, Santacruz consistently recorded 29 degrees Celsius.

Day temperatures in the city have been a degree Celsius above normal at the 35 degree Celsius mark. A spike on May 30 saw the suburbs record 36.1 degrees Celsius, the highest since 2011. On Wednesday, the day temperature dropped to 35 degrees Celsius both, at the suburbs and south Mumbai.
