Sub-Inspector S.G. Koli, of Thane Nagar police station, said, “We got a call around 1.30pm that Tushar Patil got stuck in the lift of DNS Towers while coming down between the ninth and eighth floor."

"He tried to jump off on the eighth floor, but slipped, and fell directly on the basement of the lift duct," Patil added.
Patil, who was from Jalgaon, had started working as a watchman with the society a few days ago.

“He was on night duty and wasn't feeling well, so he slept on the terrace. There was no power cut and yet the lift got stuck," a woman residing on the seventh floor said, requesting anonymity.

Another watchman also came up to open the lift’s door on the eighth floor, but Patil ignored his help and jumped.

"The lift got stuck due to a technical glitch. But Patil should have waited to be rescued rather than jumping out of the lift," said regional officer of Jawhar Baug fire station D.D. Shinde.
