The 18-year-old, who had been through a few abortions, wanted to save her younger sisters and cousins and decided to reveal all to her father.

According to her police statement, her mother’s sister, came in contact with Shaikh four years ago. She had a domestic problem and Shaikh solved it.

Her trust won, she introduced her youngest sister to Shaikh. He offered to treat her for a ‘hereditary problem’ — while she and her sisters gave birth to normal girls, their sons were either physically or mentally challenged.

Shaikh told the women he needed a secluded room. The 18-year-old’s aunt rented a house at Swastik Chamber at Musafirkhana and forced the girls to stay there along with a domestic help.

On Saturday, the 18-year-old called her father, a doctor who has been staying separately for the past four years and told him about her ordeal. “We could not bear the torture anymore and wanted Shaikh out of our lives,” said the girl in her statement.

“She told her father that the next time she sends him a blank SMS, he should come to her rescue. On Sunday evening, she sent her father a blank SMS and he, along with some friends, took some officers of the MRA Marg police to Swastik Chambers,” said the officer.

“We found the girls in the bedroom, assaulted and terrified. Their younger brother was also there. He gestured to his wounds, indicating that he had been beaten up. We found Shaikh hiding in the bathroom,” said Gulzar Shaikh, a friend of the father’s.

The police found pills and powdered medication that Shaikh used to give the girls before raping them. “We have sent them for forensic tests to see whether they were emergency contraceptive pills,” said police sub-inspector S Bagwe.
