Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted that the monsoon will make landfall in Mumbai on Sunday.

“As of now, southwest monsoon is expected to hit Goa and south Konkan areas over the next 48 hours and only then can we make an exact prediction for Mumbai,” said VK Rajeev, director, western region, IMD.

Meanwhile, cloudy conditions over the city have led to a spike in day temperatures in south Mumbai as Colaba weather station recorded 35.8 degrees Celsius on Friday, 3.3 degrees above normal. “The high temperature in the city is mostly due to excess moisture being deposited along the coast,” Rajeev said.

The weather station at Santacruz, however, recorded a marginal dip in maximum temperatures at 34.8 degrees Celsius, 2.2 degree Celsius above normal as compared to 35 degrees Celsius observed earlier throughout the week.

Weathermen predicted a partly cloudy sky for Saturday with day and night temperatures expected at 35 degrees Celsius and 29 degrees Celsius respectively.

Separately, pollution levels increased on Friday as the air quality index (AQI) of 104 moved into ‘moderate’ category from ‘good’ levels recorded on Thursday.
