A day after BJP president Nitin Gadkari slapped a legal notice on irrigation scam whistleblower and India Against Corruption (IAC) activist Anjali Damania and sought a public apology, she hit back by asking Gadkari to tender an apology instead.
“There is no question of me tendering an apology… whose side you are on? The corrupt ones or those fighting corruption,” she questioned him through a letter she sent to him on Friday.
Gadkari's notice seeked a public apology from her in 48-hours for 'slandering and defaming his image' and denied having business relations with NCP chief Sharad Pawar as claimed by Damania. The IAC activist had alleged that when she approached Gadkari, who is the head of the opposition party, he explained his inability to help her stating he had business relations with NCP chief Sharad Pawar and the two often exchange favours.
Damania has decided to challenge Gadkari in court.
In her letter, she even dares Gadkari to take her to court. “What did you think? That I would be scared of the notice and of taking me to the court? Politics is not fought out in court, but in the public domain. Come and speak out in public and people will know the truth,” her letter says.
She also said: “If politicians from the opposition party have business relations with those of the ruling party, how can we expect a democratic process to be in place. The opposition is supposed to raise its voice against the misdoings in the government. Everything is void… this is like deceiving the people of the country who believe in you.”

{{/usCountry}}Damania also questioned why Gadkari never raised his voice against NCP leaders and the issue of irrigation. The BJP said it did not wish to react to Damania. “We have already clarified our position and we will not comment further on this issue,” BJP spokesperson Madhav Bhandari told Hindustan Times.
