Rash driving, signal jumping and driver’s negligence are some of the prima facie reasons behind Friday’s Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) double-decker bus accident at Kalanagar Junction in which one person died and 31 were injured on Friday.
However, the undertaking said it will continue with their existing training programme. “We have a training programme in place. It is also up to the staff to execute what they are trained to do,” added Karlekar.
The undertaking will conduct an inquiry into the incident after the police report and Regional Transport Office (RTO) certification arrives. “Action against the driver will be decided on basis of a police report and an RTO certification by the disciplinary officer of Dharavi depot,” said SM Karlekar, deputy general manager, BEST. Bhosle has been suspended and is in the custody of Kherwadi police station. The inquiry is expected to take 15-20 days, but the matter will be discussed in a BEST panel meeting on April 19.
