Most of us doodle on page margins, books, walls, and even on our palms. Now, leading search engine, Google India has organised this year’s national Doodle 4 Google contest to mark Children’s Day.
Nikhil Rungta, marketing head, Google India, said, “Doodle 4 Google is a great opportunity for students to explore the intersection of art and technology. This year, we chose the theme ‘My Dream for India’ because we wanted to see how students can pictorially depict what their country will be like in 20 years from now when represented in a doodle.”
The contest was opened in September for students between Class 1 and 10. Students had to submit their doodles along with a supporting statement. Names of 41 finalists were announced on October 25. Doodles of all finalists were open for online public voting until November 5. “The name of the winner would be announced at a ceremony on November 13. The winning doodle will be put up as the Google India logo on the homepage of the search engine on Children’s Day,” added Rungta.
Aveak Ganguly, 14, is upbeat about the contest. “My entry was not shortlisted this year. I’ll participate next year too. Till recent years doodling was just a hobby. Off late, it has emerged as an art form. I look forward to making a career as a graphic designer,” says Aveak. Google is known for its unique way of celebrating different events through doodles, inspired by its original doodler, Dennis Hwang.
