Woman dies of malaria; 15 more test positive for swine flu in Mumbai

“The patient was suffering from diabetes as well as hypertension, which made her more susceptible to malarial infection.

Late admission to the hospital and, therefore, late diagnosis could have led to her death,” said Dr G.T. Ambe, executive health officer, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Fifteen more people in the city, including two children, also tested positive for swine flu on Monday; taking the total number of H1N1 cases recorded this month to 165.

Of these patients, four are admitted in hospitals, while 11 have been quarantined at home.

Among other rain-related illnesses, civic hospitals recorded 112 cases of malaria, 96 cases of gastroenteritis, one case of leptospirosis and two cases of dengue on Monday.

The BMC also conducted health check-up camps at Sanjay Gandhi Nagar (E-ward), Sawarpada (R-North ward), Manipada (H-East ward), Halav Pool (L-ward) and Kamla Raman Nagar (M-East ward).

Blood samples of 138 patients were also tested for malaria.
