A 22-year-old woman has accused a police-sub inspector of rape, for allegedly having sexual relations with her on the promise of marrying her.

The 32-year-old PSI is attached to the Chembur police station and a complaint of rape and unnatural sex was lodged with the RCF police on Thursday. The police are now verifying her claims.

“The woman, a Chembur resident, first met the accused on June 14 last year, when she had come to the police station to complain about her lost mobile phone. She said that the two had been in touch since then,” said Dilip S Yadav, senior inspector, RCF police.

The complainant, who works a sales girl, alleged that the accused had raped her seven times, between July 1 and July 31, while promising to marry her.

“The complainant does not recall the exact dates and timings. She first approached us in November last year, alleging verbal abuse by the PSI and some of his friends at his residence, and we registered a non-cognisable offence in this regard. However, at that time, she said there was no sexual abuse,” said Yadav.

No departmental action has been taken as the police are waiting for the results of the probe. “We will take actions as per the findings of the investigation,” said Qaiser Khaleed, additional commissioner of police (east). The woman has been sent for medical examination and reports are awaited, said police.
