Woman jumps off bridge at Sahar airport

An unidentified woman committed suicide by jumping off the bridge, about 800 m away from the departure gate of Sahar International Airport in Andheri (East) on Wednesday evening.

According to the spokesperson of the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), a woman was found lying on the exit road of the international terminal at 8.10 pm.

The MIAL doctor who was called to examine her declared her dead. Satyawan Chowdhary, deputy commissioner of police (Zone VIII) said the woman’s identity has not yet been established because she was not carrying any belongings.

“The woman seemed to be about 20-25 years old,” said Chowdhary.

When asked whether she was a passenger travelling to an international destination, Chowdhary said the woman appeared to be a daily wage labourer as she was not even wearing slippers.

“We have sent the body for post-mortem and are finding her identity," added Chowdhary.
