Work on the 18-km long Metro railway in Navi Mumbai is likely to start soon, said Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) E. Sreedharan.

The Metro, which will run perpendicular to the existing railway line, is estimated to cost Rs 2,500 crore.
“The executive summary of the project report has been submitted by us [DMRC] to City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), which funded the study. The detailed project report will be submitted by January 15,” Sreedharan said at the sidelines of a function on Friday.
“We have suggested to CIDCO to hand over the project to DMRC on a turnkey basis. It is keen to start the work and we are waiting for its green signal. If that is done, the work will begin in April or May and be completed within the next three and a half years,” Sreedharan added.
On the Mumbai Metro, he said: “In Mumbai, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority is doing the entire project. We only prepared the project report… We also withdrew our consultancy as they were not listening to the good advice we were giving them.”
