A 23-year-old man allegedly committed suicide on Thursday in front of his 24-year-old lover after she allegedly refused to let go of their five-year relationship.
The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon when Renuka Mulaiya called Prashant Badurde, a labourer, to her Nirmal Nagar residence. While Mulaiya wanted them to carry on with the relationship. Badurde was reluctant as his parents had warned him against it.
"Renuka threatened Badurde that if he did not agree, she would tell others about their relationship and malign him," said Ramesh Khokade, senior inspector of Nirmal Nagar police. Police said that at this point, Badurde consumed poison from a bottle he was carrying. He was rushed to the hospital but was brought dead on arrival.
Badurde's family refused to believe that the youth could have committed suicide and claimed that he had been killed. Following an investigation, police registered a case of abetment to suicide against Renuka and arrested her.
While the post-mortem report is awaited, police are also trying to find out if Badurde was carrying the bottle of poison, as that would suggest that the suicide was planned.

After Badurde's parents found out about the affair, they asked him to stay away from Renuka as she was married. They even shifted to Diva hoping it would end the relationship. "The two however kept in touch for some time. Later, when Badurde expressed his desire to part ways, Mulaiya kept calling him saying she could not live without him. This frustrated Badurde to quite an extent," added Khokade.

{{/usCountry}}Police added that Renuka's husband, also a labourer, had learnt about the affair some time ago and had approached Nirmal Nagar police station. The duo was however counseled and sent back.
