Come Sunday and classical music aficionados have a rare treat in store for them. Veteran classical musicians and Padma Bhushan awardees Pandit Rajan Mishra and Pandit Sajan Mishra will enthrall audiences at Shanmukhananda Hall, Matunga, with a marathon concert spanning 10 hours. The organisers of the event have also invited 15 music schools to participate in the concert.

The duo will incorporate such unsung ragas in their performance as Bairagi Bhairav and Zeelaf Bahar, and are optimistic about a positive response from Mumbai. More so with the students from 15 schools participating at the concert. Pandit Rajan Mishra enthuses, “The interest in Hindustani classical music has grown in the last decade. All the big artistes have at least 50 students learning classical music from them.”

The duo recently performed in London and returned pleased with the experience. “Foreigners had tears in their eyes when they approached us for autographs,” he recalls, adding that it’s heartrending to see people from other countries show so much interest in Hindustani classical music. “Seeing people in Paris and Vienna regard our music as divine and spiritual makes us feel proud.”
