An anthem for care

The city sang for a cause last week. Vishwas, a Gurgaon-based non-profit organisation that works in the field of health, welfare and special needs, launched its anthem, Vishwas Hai, as part of a housefull concert at the Siri Fort Auditorium. Singer Kailash Kher sang aloud the anthem: "Vishwas hai, vishwas hai, humko ujaalo ki aas hai. Hain aandhiyaan malooom hai, ziddi magar vishwas hai…", as children from Vishwas Vidyalaya joined in with their voices.

The anthem has been written by noted lyricist Prasoon Joshi and composed by Bollywood musician Aadesh Shrivastava. "The whole credit should go to Team Vishwas. I'm happy that I have captured their thinking and the essence for what they stand for," says Joshi.

Welcoming the guests, Neelam Jolly, chairperson of Vishwas, said, "We would like each one of you to go back with a little bit of vishwas in you that together, we can make a difference; that together, we can help children realise their full potential in an inclusive environment and ensure that those with special needs get equal opportunities and equal rights." Columnist and former minister Arun Shourie added, "Dalai Lama had said, 'If you want to be truly selfish, help someone.' I have added a footnote: 'If you want to be truly selfish, help someone who cannot do anything for you in return'."
