We’ve thankfully moved quite a bit from the time when a band was judged on how tightly it played a cover version. But now I ask myself what else, what next?

Maybe it will be nice to have a few young bands that shock us out of our wits by doing something completely different, by leaving behind the idea of playing safe… something that was done by the hindi bands we saw last year.

One of the most looked forward to amateur music competitions, Campus Rock Idols, will see its regional and zonal in Delhi on January 31st.

Entry to the competition is open till the last week of this month and the way the concept of a band of live musicians has caught up in the country, it’s only fair to expect some experimental stuff in this one too. For Delhi auditions to be held at Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, Netaji Nagar, walk-ins will be allowed on the 30th. Interestingly the national competition has seen a spurt in entries for even regional languages.

Meanwhile, electronica acts are merrily making room for live musicians alongside their consoles and computers. Check this one out with DJ Hamza for sure. Hamza (plays Electro/tribal/progressive) will be performing at The Sports Bar (4th floor, Gurgaon Central, Sector 25, IFFCO Chowk, Gurgoan) on Saturday, January 17 with Manu Idhra (Portuguese percussionist. 7 pm onwards.

The concert is dedicated to child victims of 26/11. Catch Tara performing with French School children’s choir at Sri Sathya Sai International Centre, Pragati Vihar, Lodhi Road on Friday, January 16 at 6.30 pm.
