Delhi’s date with music

Starting today, till next five days, the lawns of Qutub Minar will come alive as the Qutub Festival kicks off. This festival, jointly organised by Department of Art, Culture and Language and Punjabi Academy, is art of the on-going Delhi Celebrates — a six-month-long celebration of the rich and composite culture of India and New Delhi.

Starting today, till next five days, the lawns of Qutub Minar will come alive as the Qutub Festival kicks off. This festival, jointly organised by Department of Art, Culture and Language and Punjabi Academy, is art of the on-going Delhi Celebrates — a six-month-long celebration of the rich and composite culture of India and New Delhi. “Right from its inception, the festival has elucidated a euphoric response from Delhiites. This year we are showcasing a different musical marvel every day and we are confident that the audience will appreciate it,” says Rawail Singh, secretary, Punjabi Academy.

Third year in running, Qutub Festival will have some of the best and the biggest names in the Indian and Pakistani music industry crooning for the audience. This includes Shaan, Mohit Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal, Hariharan along with Sufi singer Arif Lohar. Not only this but Delhi-based band, Astitva, will be opening the event.



“It is an honour for me to perform at the prestigious Qutub music festival. Delhi’s charm is magnetic and I am always keen to come here. I am sure I will have an awesome time,” says singer Mohit Chauhan. “Delhi has one of the most energetic and lively audience. There are numerous music lovers here who understand and love all kinds of music. The large footfall of the Delhi audience in my shows motivates me to perform more often,” insists singer Shreya Ghoshal. “Initiatives like Qutub will inspire and promote music amongst the common masses. Such initiatives should be taken often to promote the culture of India,” she adds.
