Problems may be plaguing the 2010 Commonwealth Games, to be held from October 3 to October 14 in New Delhi, but for Hindi rock band, Euphoria, the Games are a reason to rejoice.
The Delhi-based band, which has over four chartbuster studio albums to its credit, and is India’s busiest live act, has composed the official anthem of the Games. Says Sen, “Sheilaji (Sheila Dixit, Chief Minister of New Delhi) is a fan of Euphoria, so she asked me to compose two versions of the anthem – one each in Hindi and English. It is a huge honour for me to be part of such a prestigious event.”
A 30-second promo of the English version, called Dilli – Gateway to your heart, was premiered on TV channels across the world during the FIFA World Cup last month, and the full song will be released in September. The Hindi version, called Dilli meri jaan will be released on August 16. "The idea was to make tunes that people can sing," Sen reveals. "That’s been the USP of Euphoria."
He adds that the songs are a fusion of the East and West. “Euphoria always tries to create modern songs, with Indian souls,” he smiles. “So the music has a hint of rock, but we’ve also used a lot of tabla, dhol and other Indian instruments, in a way that the entire world can relate to the song.” The song, which will be available for free download soon, will have a music video that will be shot in Delhi although no album has been planned yet.
