Not just the 96,000 fans at the Rose Bowl Concert arena in California, but millions from 16 countries across the world were witness to U2's concert through a live webcast via the video-sharing site YouTube. This event was the penultimate show of U2's 360 world tour, which began on June 30.
The Irish rock band, with Bono as its lead singer, took the stage for the unprecedented gig at 9pm PT on Sunday (Monday 10.30am IST). It's for the first time that music-lovers have had the opportunity to witness an entire live concert for free on YouTube. The streaming had backing of the band members, who are known to extend their party beyond the concert premises.
The live streaming event was also widely covered on Twitter, by way of a live chat about the concert. When asked about the live webcast and their global fan following, the band was quoted as saying 'Fans often travel long distances to come to see U2 - this time U2 can go to them, globally.'
