I can't sacrifice the stage for music direction: Rahul Sharma

Ask him why he made this choice, and Sharma explains, "Music direction consumes a lot of time, as one has to constantly have studio sittings with the filmmakers and spend time in studios. Also, for the music one makes for films, one has to cater to not just the audience, like in live shows, but also the producers and directors."

So is it only the time constraint that is keeping him away from films? "I can't sacrifice performing at concerts for music direction. I would rather take the legacy of the traditional instrument like santoor forward," he says. However, Sharma says he isn't bidding adieu to making music for films yet.

"No … not at all. If there is a film which does not have only item numbers then it will be interesting to work on it. I actually miss those Yash Chopra films. These days' directors are not making such films anymore," he says.
