Nick Warren, Godfather of progressive house, wants to put Indian beats on his next compilation

He grew up banging pots and pans in his kitchen. Years later, Nick Warren became one of the reasons progressive house and compilation albums entered mainstream parties in the UK, when he released the Global Underground series of albums.

On his first multi-city tour, but visiting Mumbai for the second time, Warren says, “I only visited Mumbai last time, so I’m really excited and looking forward to being in Delhi and Bangalore. I wish I had three months to spend in India. I would have travelled up north and to the interiors,” he says, adding, “I love the food.”

Warren’s Global Underground (GU) series has had 35 releases so far, and his music features on eight of them. But he wants to compile one just on India. “I think it’s good idea to do a GU in India. We weren’t sure whether the underground scene was a big thing. But I think the time might be right for India in a year,” says Warren, who played at the Blue Frog last night.

Does he think electronic dance music is his true calling, as an artiste and a producer? “The great thing about EDM is that no one knows for sure. It could all change next week,” he quips.

Nick Warren will be playing in F Bar, New Delhi on July 16 and Pebbles, Bangalore on July 17.
