Indian music gets award function

Close on the heels of India’s first metal awards function, which was held in the city recently, comes another event with a similar purpose. Except this one, called the Star Global Indian Music Awards (GIMA), brings together the leading music producers from the industry and Bollywood.

Close on the heels of India’s first metal awards function, which was held in the city recently, comes another event with a similar purpose. Except this one, called the Star Global Indian Music Awards (GIMA), brings together the leading music producers from the industry and Bollywood.

Designed by Wizcraft International Entertainment and Star Television Network, GIMA brings together, for the first time, labels such as the Indian Music Industry (IMI), T Series, YRF Music and SaReGaMa; and organisations like South India Music Companies Association (SIMCA), Eros International, Tips, EMI, Sony Music, Venus, Universal Music Group and Aditya Music, to partner with their cause.

“We believe that the music industry’s audiences have waited a long time to see their icons applauded,” says Sabbas Joseph, director of Wizcraft. “We hope to unify all Indian musical influences on to one common stage, something that has never been done before.”

The award function, which will honour Bollywood and non-Bollywood compositions, has already begun inviting labels, producers and musicians to send in their entries. However, only the compositions that have been created between April 2009 and March 2010 will be eligible for this year’s nominations.
